How can I commission a painting?
Once you submitted your inquiry, I will be in touch within 3 business days. You will be invited to book a consultation with me to discuss your requirements. No worry, there is no commitment. The consultation will be conducted through online video call or meetup if you live around South Portland, Maine. We are going to talk about each other expectations and requirements for the commission in the consultation.
If we decided to proceed, you can reserve your commission with a non-refundable deposit of $100 to be applied to the purchase price. Following by will be a few emails or calls for discussions to help me learn more about your loved one, included a series of questions I carefully crafted to assist you in describing your feelings for your loved one. I will make several preliminary sketches for your review and approval before proceed to actual painting or drawing.
Do I need to provide you photos to draw or paint from?
Yes, you need to give me high quality reference photos. We will discuss about the reference materials once we determined the artwork details.
What are the choice of medium and surface?
All commission paintings will be painted with oil on canvas or wood; whereas, graphite, charcoal or mixed media on paper will be used for commission drawings. We will discuss the detail after the first consultation.
How long does it take to complete a commission?
Each commission require different duration to complete depending on your booking date, painting size, subject matter, medium, availability of your choice of surface, and the waiting time for your approval on sketch as well as receiving reference materials from you. I will give you an estimation upon accepting your commission. Once I get started a painting, it typically takes 30 to 60 days to complete, and another 10 to 30 days for drying. For drawing, it typically takes 10 to 20 days to complete.
What are the pricing of commission?
Prices are based on your choice of commission size and painting surface, starting from $390 for drawing and $1160 for painting. You will be given a price sheet for reference once your commission is accepted. Please note that all commission prices does not include framing cost, shipping cost and any additional expenses. They are the prices of the painting only.
How can I make the payment?
All payments for commissions will be made through our secure payment system that accept major credit cards include Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards.
Generally, I will be sending you total of 3 invoices throughout the commission process:
- Deposit of $100, to be applied to the purchase price, for booking your commission.
- 50% of balance before I proceed to painting.
- Remaining 50% balance plus additional costs if any, such as shipping and framing, before I send you the painting.
All payments are non-refundable and due before proceed to next process.
Will you frame the painting before shipping to me?
I don't usually ship my paintings with frames to keep the shipping weight low and minimizing the risk of damage in transit. However, I can help you to get a custom frame that best suit the painting at additional cost.
Do you accept international commission?
Yes, I would be happy to work with you if international shipping cost is not a concern for you. The commission will be shipping via insured carrier service.
